For perfect picture and sound make a direct digital connection to your HDTV using HDMI or use the digital optical audio output to connect to an external sound system. Connecting to non-HD equipment is no problem using the SCART output. The Ethernet port connects the Plaza HD-S2 to your network for On Demand TV and there’s a USB port for offline updates.
The Plaza HD-S2 will even help save you money due to its extremely low power consumption (less than 1/2W in standby) and comes recommended by the Energy Saving Trust.
Winner of Best Freesat Receiver in the 2013 AVTech Media Awards
The Plaza HD-S2 was chosen as Best Freesat Receiver in the 2013 AVTech Media Awards, from the publishers of Home Cinema Choice, What Satellite & Digital TV and HiFi Choice.
The awards were included as a supplement with the December 2013 issues of their magazines. They concluded:
“Freesat’s free-to-air offerings provide an appealing alternative to subscription-based TV platforms, and while higher-end Freesat HD boxes carry multiple tuners and PVR facilities, our award winner is this straightforward hi-def model with a recession-proof £50 price tag. The diminutive Manhattan Plaza HD-S2 delivers a cracking picture with HD channels, support for BBC iPlayer and ITV Player and easy access to non-Freesat unencrypted channels carried via the relevant satellites. All of the usual Freesat HD features – EPG, digital teletext, subtitles, audio descriptions, etc – are present and correct too.”
“The only single-tuner freesat HD receiver you need in your home.”
“To say it is perfect for use in a bedroom or kitchen would do it an injustice, because unless you want recording features, fancy guides and more interactive facilities, this would also serve the purpose incredibly well as a main living room device for accessing all your favourite channels.
We have no hesitation in offering a high score; it’s worthy of being the only single-tuner freesat HD receiver you need in your home.”
* The Plaza HD-S2 must be connected via Ethernet to a minimum actual broadband speed of 2Mbps for On Demand TV services.
† Non-Freesat channels are not listed in the Programme Guide. Only information about the current and following programmes is available via the channel banner after changing to a non-Freesat channel.
