When traditional fuses are used for overcurrent protection, they operate only once and must then be replaced. The PTC resettable fuse is a modern overcurrent protection device that provides both protection and automatic reset functionality.

The PTC overcurrent protection element is connected in series with the circuit. Under normal operating conditions, it remains in a low-resistance state, allowing the circuit to function normally. If a short circuit or unusually high current occurs, the PTC fuse activates, increasing resistance and reducing the voltage to a safe level. This prevents damage and protects connected equipment.

Once the fault condition is removed, the PTC fuse automatically resets and returns to its low-resistance state. This eliminates the need for fuse replacement and prevents repeated switching cycles that can damage the circuit.
